Rénoclimat

Do you own a single family, semi-detached or row house (townhouse)? Are you thinking of renovating your home? The Rénoclimat program is specially designed to meet your needs.

What is Rénoclimat?

Rénoclimat is a green energy renovation program for owners of single family, semi-detached or row houses. It includes an energy audit conducted both before and after your retrofit. An energy efficiency advisor performs an on-site energy rating of your home. The program also offers access to financial assistance.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible for the Rénoclimat program if you own a single family, semi-detached or row house that is your principal residence.

What does the initial audit consist of?

The list of items to be analyzed during the initial audit before renovation work begins includes:

  • house site and building exterior (structure, foundations, framework, chimney, exterior wall cladding, doors and windows, ground slope and grade, drainage, etc.);
  • the interior structure of the house (foundation walls, floors, structural elements, walls, etc.);
  • insulation and air tightness;
  • heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems;
  • energy consumption habits (hot water, lighting and household appliances).

How much does a home energy audit cost?

The initial energy audit of your home before renovation work begins is valued at $300, but offered at a cost of $149.95 (plus taxes). The second audit performed once the retrofit is complete normally costs $150, but is offered free of charge if you have made significant improvements to the energy efficiency of your home.

What is the blower door test?

The energy efficiency advisor will conduct a blower door test to determine your home’s air tightness. The simulation software uses parameters such as insulation, air tightness and heating unit performance to determine the energy rating of your residence.

What’s in the energy evaluation report?

After his visit, the energy efficiency advisor will give you a complete evaluation report. It lists information on the condition of your home and the results of the blower door test (air tightness), as well as recommendations about the work to be done to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

What sort of financial assistance is available for energy-saving renovations?

Besides the financial assistance offered by the federal government (ecoENERGY – Renovation), additional assistance for your retrofit is available.

Notes : If you want to replace your heating system, for example, you can access federal funds through the Rénoclimat program. If you heat with natural gas, you can also take advantage of programs offered by natural gas distributors.
